Mary Catharine Damstrom, daughter of Darven A. and Ruth E. (Heng) Damstrom, was born on March 5, 1950 in Emmetsburg. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School, Lutheran School of Nursing, and Grand View University in Des Moines.
Mary worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital/ Unity Point in Des Moines for 45 years. Mary enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, reading, crafts, and early morning walks.
Mary passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She is survived by her aunt Catharine (Heng) (Gerald) Dillon of Emmetsburg, Janice (Heng) (Jim) Stillman of Emmetsburg, Bill (Sue) Heng of West Des Moines, Roger (Sue) Heng of Silverdale, WA, Jim (Sherrill) Heng of Sewanee, TN, Charles (Lynn) Voigt of Altoona, Tom (Carol) Voigt of Pataskala, OH, and other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A private celebration of life for Mary will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Unity Point Health Systems.
