Joyce Muller

Joyce LaVonne (Hauenstein) Muller, daughter of Merv and Ruth Hauenstein was born February 7, 1931, in Burt, Iowa.  She attended school in Emmetsburg, Iowa. 

On October 8, 1950, Joyce was united in marriage to Lyle Muller in Laurens, Iowa.  She graduated in 1948 from Emmetsburg, where she was a member of the band, mixed chorus, Girls’ Glee club and sextette. She was employed for two years at the High School as stenographer.

Joyce worked for the Department of Human Services in Pocahontas, Iowa and Emmetsburg for 30 plus years.  After retiring, she began working at the Family Clinic as a medical transcriptionist, and then from home.  When she retired from that, she began decorating cakes for graduations, birthdays, and any other special occasions, except for weddings.  During graduation time, the kitchen and dining rooms were filled with cakes.  Her cakes were enjoyed by many!  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, singing, roller skating, going to drive-in movies, camping and other traveling adventures.  Later on, she and husband started going to Mission Texas for the winter months with her sister and husband.

Joyce is survived by her son, Steve (Kathy) of Clear Lake, Iowa; daughter Kathy Heng of Emmetsburg, Iowa; and son Denny Muller, of Emmetsburg, Iowa.  Grandchildren:  Ty Heng of Christiansburg, VA; Alyssa Muller, Clear Lake, Iowa, Heather Angel of Texas, Eric Muller of Texas and foster daughter Connie Morrison of Simpsonville, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle; parents, Merv and Ruth Hauenstein, two sisters, Lois Lowman and Darlene Johnson; one brother, Russ; Grandson David Muller; son-in-law Arnold Heng; Sister-in-law, Retha Adkins, brother-in-law’s Dick Orndorf, Skip Adkins, Ray Lowman and Leonard Johnson.

Joyce passed away at the age of 94 at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, Iowa on March 7. 2025. A Celebration of Joyce’s Life was held  Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center (711 Broadway) in Emmetsburg, Iowa with entombment at Evergreen Cemetery.
