Susan "Susie" Wentzel, age 55, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.
Funeral Mass was on Tuesday March 3, 2026, at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas, Iowa. Fr Paul Nguyen officiated. Burial took place in Calvary Cemetary in Pocahontas. Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas handled the arrangements.
Susan Michelle Wentzel was born August 14, 1970, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert and Edna (Schumacher) Wentzel. Susie was educated in Pocahontas, graduating from Pocahontas High School in 1989. Susie competed in the Special Olympics where she won a Gold Medal in the softball throw. In September of 1990, Susie moved to Emmetsburg. In Emmetburg, Susie was active with Horizons Unlimited, which she enjoyed and made many friends. In 2017, Susie returned to Pocahontas where she lived with Mary Jo and Brian. She was active with Imagine the Possibilities in Storm Lake for 10 years. Susie worked at Farm and Home and every morning she would kiss her Dad on the forehead before she left for dayhab. At Farm and Home, she always had a smile for everyone who came in.
Susie was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, bike riding, going to the library and being around little kids. She loved listening to music, especially Kenny Rogers. Susie also enjoyed having a diet Mountain Dew and an occasional Bud light. She was an avid Vikings fan and loved going to games in Minneapolis.
Survivors include her siblings: Mike (Jane) Wentzel of Emmetsburg; Mary Jo (Brian) Schoeder of Pocahontas; Kelly (Tammy) Wentzel of Earlham; Diane (Tim) Flaherty of Pocahontas; Nancy Wentzel of Des Moines and David (Melissa) Wentzel of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Amber Wentzel of Pocahontas and many nieces and nephews.
Susie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Robert and Edna; brothers, Robert, Daniel and Patrick Wentzel and nephew, Michael Harrison.
