Funeral service for Steven Jones was held Tuesday, Jan. 31 at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Pastor Jon Williams and Pastor Lana Williams officiated. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Reading Cemetery in Farnhamville, Iowa.
Steven Eugene Jones, son of Glenn and Darlene (Berner) Jones, was born Jan. 4, 1951 in Carroll, Iowa. He received his education in Sac City, graduating from Sac City High School. Following graduation, Steve attended Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, where he was trained in Engineering and Drafting. During high school and college, Steve participated in band, which he truly enjoyed.
In 1971, Steve was united in marriage to Jody Kay Davis in Storm Lake. They were blessed with a son, Nathan. Steve was later married to Jean Marie Peterson in 1980. To this union a son, Alex was born.
Steve was employed at various companies in Cedar Falls, Des Moines and Emmetsburg, where he worked as a draftsman and did engineering jobs.
For the past twenty years Steve has had the joy of sharing his life with Joann Williams. They made their home in Graettinger. Joanne’s children and grandchildren became a part of Steve’s family and he loved them as his own.
Steve loved hunting and fishing. At the age of 14, Steve had a severe hunting accident which required an arterial transplant. He was the first patient in Iowa to survive that surgery. He was an avid collector of antique guns and knives and enjoyed going to area garage sales in search of these items. He was a member of the N.R.A. Steve was always ready for a trip to the Casino or to watch a baseball game. His family was very important to him, and he cherished all the times he could spend with Joanne, their children, and grandchildren. Steve also enjoyed having a good argument with his sister, Nita.
Steve passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Hunter Williams.
He is survived by his fiancee, Joann Williams of Graettinger; his children, Nathan (Judy) Jones of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Alexander (Chelsea) Jones of Carlisle, Iowa, Jon (Lana) Williams of Emmetsburg, Ryan Williams of Prairie City, Iowa and Eric (Kiley) Williams of Waukee; grandchildren, Matthea, Grady, Tatum, Reba, Asher, Holden, Greenlee, Tony and Levi; his sister, Nita Jurgens of Ames; as well as many other relatives and friends.
Arrangements were made by the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
