Funeral services for 87 year old Rodney Meyer of Mallard, Iowa will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, Iowa.

Interment is at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew, Iowa.

 Rodney James Meyer, son of Walter Fred and Esther Doris (Fiddelke) Meyer, was born July 21, 1936 near Paullina, Iowa in O’Brien County. He was baptized on August 6, 1936 by Rev. H. Steger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown.

 Rodney’s parents purchased a farm near Mallard and moved there in 1941.  Rodney began his education in country school, Ellington #6, north of Plover, from Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Rodney then went to Plover Consolidated School where he completed his education, graduating in 1954.  Rodney was confirmed by Rev. Carl F. Hinrichs on May 14, 1950.

 On August 20, 1956 Rodney was inducted into the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland AFB in Texas.  He then went to Florida where he took preflight schooling and training.  Rodney was stationed at various bases throughout the United States and served as a Flight Instructor.

On May 4, 1958, Rodney was united in marriage to Marilyn Ray Truelson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard.  They were the first couple to be married in the new church.  In 1961 Rodney left the USAF and moved onto the family farm, where he and Marilyn lived for the rest of his life.  Rodney was a devoted farmer for many years.

He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, where he served as Treasurer for 40 years.  Rodney also served on the Mallard School Board from 1972 - 1983 and as a director on the Iowa Lakes Electric Coop from 1984 - 2004.

In 1963 Rodney joined the Iowa Air National Guard as a Weapons Director.  He continued serving until 1970.  He continued his love of flying throughout his life and owned his own plane for several years.  Rodney also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Rodney passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024 at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 87.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Meyer; and his brother, Lewis Meyer.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Mallard, Iowa; his children, Andrea (Gene) Olberding of Mallard, Iowa, Cheryl ((Patrick) Courtney of Victoria, Minnesota, Kim (Paul) Peters of Madrid, Iowa, and Douglas Meyer of West Bend, Iowa; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jason (Lynn) Olberding and their children, Nicholas and Benny of Brookfield, Wisconsin, Alison (Aaron) Angstrom and their children Brayleigh and Logan or Humboldt, Iowa, Jacob (Ashley) Olberding and their children, Luke, Claire and Grace of Humboldt, Iowa, Danielle (Curt) LaChappelle and their children, Louis and Charles of Watertown, Minnesota and Andrew Courtney of Victoria, Minnesota, Austin (Rachel) Peters and their children, Bechet and Rennah Peters of Van Meter, Iowa, Ashley (T.J.) Van Dyke and their children, Thea and Oliver of Madrid, Iowa and Shayla Peters of Madrid, Iowa; his sister, Delores Schall of Hampton, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
