Visitation and funeral service for Rhonda Swanson Wenck will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to1 p.m. Funeral service is at 1 p.m. at Hope Reformed Church. Pastor Perry DeGroot will officiate. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rhonda Kae (Swanson) Wenck, was born June 22, 1950, in Emmetsburg to Rodney and Myrt (Friedley) Swanson. After graduating from Ayrshire High School, Rhonda attended Iowa Lakes Community College and Iowa State University with a degree in Elementary Education.
On July 27, 1974, Rhonda was united in marriage to Daniel J. Wenck Jr. in Spencer. To this union, two children were born, Justin and Britni. Rhonda and Dan lived in various places including Florida and Hawaii, due to Dan being in the military. Lake Forest, CA has been their home for the last 40 years.
Rhonda enjoyed working with students and was a high school guidance technician prior to her retirement.
Rhonda loved her family and friends and was loved by all who knew her. Her spirit was sweet, gentle, kind, and giving. When the rest of the world sent cards out of a box, Rhonda sent a hand-written three-page poem showing what a caring, creative person she was, noticing and remembering the little things that are really so important in life!
Rhonda cherished spending time with her family. She loved being near the water, whether it was their pool in their beautiful back yard, the ocean, or Lake Okoboji. Her pet dogs meant the world to her. Rhonda enjoyed eating seafood when dining out, especially scallops. She also loved to dance, watch music videos, and movies.
Rhonda passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at home, at age 72.
She is survived by her husband Dan Wenck; her children, Justin Wenck and Britni Wenck; her mother Myrt Swanson; sister Jill (Jim) Weerheim; sister Kyla (Joel) Berkland; sister-in-law Debbie (Larry) Kacmarynski; sister-in-law Linda Wenck; sister-in-law Kerri Wenck; many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Rodney Swanson; her sister Jana Sierck; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Norma Wenck; brother-in-law Larry Wenck; brother-in-law Gary Wenck; sister-in-law Beverly Koster, and sister-in-law Lori Ashley.
