Michael James Noonan was born July 4, 1947 to James and Mary Evelyn (Mehan) Noonan in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Ayrshire, Iowa. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1972. After graduation he served in the US Army from 1972-1979. He completed Special Forces training (Green Berets) in 1973 and was reassigned as Dental Surgeon for 7th Special Forces Group in Panama. In 1979, he completed his Army service in Texas as a Major.
In 1980, he opened a private dental practice in Wilmington, NC, and from 1982-2007, a dental practice in Fayetteville, NC. In 2007, he opened a dental practice in West Plains, MO until 2015 when he moved to Pennsylvania and practiced dentistry until Dec. 2022. Dr. Noonan was experienced in all areas of general dentistry with emphasis on cosmetics, prosthetics, and oral surgery. He was awarded an Associate Fellowship by the World Clinical Laser Institute.
Michael is survived by his wife of 28 years, Dawn Bidoli and his children James, Lynlee, and Laura as well as brothers Daniel and Edward and sisters, Jean, JoAnn, Geri Lynn, Nancy, and Jana in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and Aunt Rosie Leichtnam.
Michael loved hunting, fishing, flying his airplane, and riding his motorcycle. He said he would work until he no longer could and he accomplished that with 51 years as a practicing dentist.
He passed away at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center on Jan. 22, 2023 after an illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother John Patrick. His remains will be buried near his parents at Calvary Cemetery in Ayrshire, and services will be held in the spring.
