Marlene Berkland, 89, passed away 12/3/25 in Lake Geneva, WI. The family will be having a Celebration of Life program in honor of Marlene on May 3rd at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Program will start at 10:00 AM, after regular church services that start at 8:30 AM. Come join the family and reminisce about Marlene and enjoy a potluck meal after the program.
Marlene Naig was born on January 7,1936 in Emmetsburg. She grew up on a farm in Cylinder and went to school in Emmetsburg. After graduation, she attended Waldorf College and earned her teaching certificate. Marlene taught kindergarten for years in Emmetsburg. Marlene married her childhood friend and love of her life, Ronald Berkland. Ron and Marlene lived in Cylinder, IA and raised their 3 children Russell, Joel and Andy. While living in Cylinder, Marlene was a member of the Depew Lutheran Church and worked for Joyces Foods.
In 1997, Ron and Marlene moved to Illinois to be closer to two of their sons and their families. Marlene embraced her role as Grandma and helped raise 6 grandchildren in Illinois. After losing Ron in 2000 to cancer, Marlene moved in with Joel & Kyla until she passed late 2025. She will always be remembered for her spiritual dedication, giving persona, and unwavering commitment to her family. All 8 of her grandchildren have forever been touched by her presence over the years and will cherish her memory as a beacon for how life is to be lived.
