Visitation for Mae Stevens of Emmetsburg is Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

A funeral service will follow, at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Hojin Shin will officiate.

Interment is in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.

Mae Stevens, daughter of Otto and Edna (Rambath) Iverson, was born Feb. 1, 1931. She received her education in Cylinder.

In August 1951 Mae was united in marriage to Loren Phelps. They were blessed with seven children. Mae was later married to Bill Stevens.

Mae was employed at Kathleen's Residential Care, the Quality Café and then the Emmetsburg Care Center. Mae was a faithful and active member of the First United Methodist Church and church circle in Emmetsburg. Mae helped in many capacities throughout the church, serving funeral luncheons, baking items for the church bizarre, and donating items needed for Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Mae loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and attending family reunions. She did a lot of embroidery work during her lifetime. Mae had a big heart and she was a giving person, donating to the needy, buying Christmas gifts to be distributed through Upper Des Moines Outreach, and sending packages to the men and women in the Armed Forces.

Mae passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Edna Iver- son; a son, Lawrence Phelps; a daughter, Ruth Phelps Day; a grandson, Dylan Berry; sisters, Beatrice Dorweiler, Helen Michelson and Florence Furgeson; ex-husband, Loren Phelps; and her husband, Bill Stevens.

She is survived by her children, Bonnie Arnold of Greenbrier, AR, Sharon (Jessie) Manwarren of Emmetsburg, Vickie Phelps of Emmetsburg, Donna (Mike) Berry of Alexandria, MN and Diane (Tony) Streit of West Bend; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
