Funeral service for Lewis Meyer was held Feb. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. The Rev. Paul Schulz officiated. Interment was at Rush Lake Cemetery in Curlew.
Lewis Edward Meyer, son of Walter and Esther (Fiddelke) Meyer, was born July 17, 1932 in Paullina, Iowa. Lewis began his education in Germantown and then completed his schooling in Plover.
On March 18, 1953, Lewis was inducted into the United States Army, serving his country until being honorably discharged on March 17, 1955.
On June 7, 1956 Lewis was united in marriage to Carole Swecker at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. They were blessed with six children.
Lewis farmed near Curlew his entire life. He also was employed with Archer Oil for thirty eight years. Lewis was a faithful and lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard, having served on many boards and committees within the church.
Lewis’s family meant the world to him and he loved every opportunity to spend time with them. Farming was a way of life for Lewis and he was a good steward of the land he farmed. He enjoyed having a good time, whether playing a good polka or waltz on his accordion or joining his friends and family for a game of cards.
Lewis passed away Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 at Regency Park in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carole in 1992; a great-granddaughter, Amara; his parents, Walter and Esther Meyer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Maynard and LaVon Swecker; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom Schall, Leonard and Patsy Wright, and Darrell and Kathy Swecker.
He is survived by his children, Paul Meyer of Schleswig, Iowa, Carolyn Sander of Carroll, Iowa, Mark (Pam) Meyer of Mallard, Diane (Lantz) Duffield of Aurora, Colorado, Lois (Roger) Rothe of Denison, Iowa and John Meyer of Spirit Lake; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Rodney (Marilyn) Meyer of Mallard; a sister, Delores Schall of Hampton, Iowa; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
