Celebration of Life for former Emmetsburg resident Jeffrey Lyn Ring will be held Saturday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
Jeffrey Lyn Ring was born on Sept. 6, 1964 to John and Jean (McVinau) Ring in Emmetsburg. He passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022.
Jeff served in the United States Marine Corps after graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1983. He attended Boot Camp at the San Diego Recruit Depot. He served with the 2nd Battalion Platoon 2062 after graduating from Boot Camp. Jeff was stationed at 29 Palms, California and Kaneohe Bay in Honolulu, Hawaii. Jeff traveled with the Marines to Thailand, Korea, Philippines, and Japan. Jeff was a radio technician and achieved the rank of Lance Corporal during his military service.
After the Marine Corps, Jeff attended Northwest Iowa College majoring in Communications. Jeff worked for Scott Telephone in Emmetsburg; Graybar in Des Moines, St. Louis, MO, and Wichita, KS. Later, he was self-employed and throughout his career was known to many as “The Telephone Man.”
Jeff accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized on May 11, 1980. Jeff was an active member of Cross Road Church in Wichita, KS. There he rededicated his life to Christ and was rebaptized on Nov. 22, 2009. Jeff enjoyed Mike Freed Life Group and appreciated his “Church Mom,” Shirley Fisher. He was a member of the VFW, Kansas. Jeff enjoyed time with his three sons; he liked attending their sporting events, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping with them. Jeff also liked visiting museums and memorials and was an avid gardener who canned and shared his produce with family and friends. Jeff was recognized as a hard worker and he instilled that work ethic in his sons.
Jeff is survived by his three sons: Travis Ring, and wife Keely, of Ruthven; Trevor Ring of Emmetsburg, and their mother Kim Fay of Emmetsburg; Jack Ring of Wichita, KS; step-daughter Madeleine Rice of Wichita, KS, and their mother Shelley Ring of Wichita, KS; a sister Jolene Cleveringa, and husband Doug; and a brother Mike Ring, and wife Jodi.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Daniel Ring.
