Funeral services for 74 year old James “Jim” Manwarren of Emmetsburg were held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa

Burial took place at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

James Nicholas Manwarren, son of Robert and Ella (Gillman) Manwarren, was born August 28, 1949 in Emmetsburg, Iowa.  He received his education at Emmetsburg Community School.

On December 12, 1970 Jim was united in marriage to Connie Hamrick at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa.  They were blessed with a daughter, Nicole.

Jim worked as a meat cutter for several years before earning his C.N.A. certification. He then went to work at Kathleen’s Residential Care facility where he was employed for many years.  He later began working at Emerald Oaks and  continued his employment there until his retirement a year ago. Jim enjoyed his work very much and was a devoted and conscientious care taker. He was also very active in delivering Meals on Wheels for several years.

Jim enjoyed watching dog and bird shows, going to coffee with the guys and taking rides throughout the countryside.  Jim was an avid reader and frequently went to the library.  He also enjoyed watching the Vikings and Hawkeye games.  Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Destiny.

What Jim’s family will remember is that Jim was a master storyteller, his tales weaving laughter into every corner of their hearts. He held dear the simplest joys of life, finding richness in cherished memories and the beauty of everyday moments, valuing them far above material possessions.

His carefree spirit, always radiating happiness, showed the true value of living in the moment. Quality time was his currency, investing it generously in those he loved, without concern for the opinions of others. He embraced his authentic self and was always genuine.

In times of need, Jim was a pillar of support, dropping everything to lend a helping hand, especially to his beloved daughter and granddaughter. His empathy knew no bounds, his kindness and patience endless.

With a heart filled with love, he dedicated himself to the service of others, finding joy in both work and caring for those around him. He made everyone feel safe in his presence, a guardian whose warmth and humor lit up every room.

Jim will forever be remembered for his unwavering dependability, his readiness to lend an ear or share a story, his protective embrace, and his infectious sense of humor that brought light to even the darkest of days.

Jim passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 at his home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 74.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ella Manwarren; his brother, Paul Manwarren; brothers-in-law, Bruce Schneider and Harold Piercy; sister-in-law, Nancy Manwarren; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harley and Velma Hamrick.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Emmetsburg, Iowa; his daughter, Nicole Manwarren (Craig Duhn) of Mason City, Iowa; granddaughter, Destiny Kinyaiya of Mason City, Iowa; brothers, Jerry Manwarren of Flandreau, South Dakota, Bob Manwarren (Peg) of Armstrong, Iowa, and Tom Manwarren of Emmetsburg, Iowa; sisters, Evelyn Schneider of Mallard, Iowa, Barb Schneider (Tony) of Havelock, Iowa, Laura Nelson (Randy) of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Bonnie VanLenning (Hank) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Alice Manwarren of Emmetsburg, Iowa, Art Hamrick (Mary) of Spencer, Iowa, Georgia Piercy of Spencer, Iowa and Julie Tuttle (Maynard) of Spencer, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
