James Nicholas Carrigan Sr, son of Tom and Eva (Laubenthal) Carrigan, was born July 1, 1938 on the family farm near Emmetsburg. He attended school in Mallard, graduating in 1957. Jim held many jobs over the years. His favorite jobs and those he enjoyed talking about were working as a farm hand for George Tonderum, working for Kenny Krause at the dealership and driving truck for Maurice Boggess Construction.
For years, he was very proud of Carrigan Appliance. Even after the store closed, he continued to provide service and quality used appliances out of his home garage. In later years, he spent many hours tinkering on anything and everything in his garage. Jim also helped Helen in the garden building cages and helping at the Farmers Market. He was very proud of their hard work in the garden and had an amazing collection of tools that many of his children and grandchildren are still enjoying
Jim was first married to Patricia Howard. To this union, they had 6 children. Julie Carrigan, Pamela (Mark) Meyer, Scott Carrigan, Kenny (Pam) Carrigan, Kimberly Carrigan, and Gary (Misty) Carrigan. On December 12, 1975, Jim married Helen Kay Jergens. Helen brought 3 children into the marriage, Don (Cari) Lemley and Rhonda (Rich) Grusecki, and Jeff (Brenda) Schmidt. Together they had 3 children Tina Davis, Jamie (Andy) Swift, and James “Duner” Carrigan Jr.
Jim entered his heavenly home on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Those welcoming him include his parents, Tom and Eva; mother and father in law, Howard and Emaline Jergens; brother Tom; brother in law, Don Girres; his daughter, Rhonda Grusecki; son in law, Jeff Davis; and great grandsons, Alex Hoff, Kolten and Kyler Carrigan.
Left to remember Jim are his children; siblings Kay Girres, Terry Carrigan, Mike (Charlene) Carrigan, Dan (Melanie) Carrigan, John (Jean Ann) Carrigan, Renee (Nick) Adams, sister in law, Roxie Carrigan, 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
The family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy during this time.
