Elizabeth “Liz” Chapman, 98, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2023 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Liz was the daughter of Adolf Lenz and Florentina Richter. She was born Dec. 17, 1924 near Cylinder. Liz always had good memories growing up on the farm with her brothers. She credited her resilience to keeping up with the boys. Liz’s school years were filled with many lasting friendships and experiences that stayed with her for life.  She attended and graduated from high school in Emmetsburg. After high school, she attended Vocational College of San Diego, California. Her year at the college trained her for service during WWII. She spent most of her life in Emmetsburg until she joined family members in Lincoln, Nebraska.
On March 25, 1945, Liz was united in marriage to James “Jim” Chapman.  She always said it was love at first sight with Jim, and their dedication to each other showed within work partnerships and faith.  Liz and Jim owned and operated Chapman Seed and Feed on the old county farm, with Liz taking on the title of office manager, a role she enjoyed that suited her well. The farm created many wonderful memories for Liz and her loved ones. Another place that Liz felt at home was the St. Paul Lutheran Church where she stayed a devoted member even after moving to Lincoln.
Liz found enjoyment out of many different hobbies varying from singing, golfing, playing Bridge and baking but her true happiness stemmed from spending time with her family.  Liz was always quick to state how proud she was of her family, and she found comfort in everyone being so close knit.  Nothing made her happier than seeing all of her loved ones together.  Liz kept a positive outlook on life in reference to her favorite song -
Quéserá, será
Whatever will be, will be
The future’s not ours to see
Quéserá, será
What will be, will be
