Funeral service for Donna Mae Halcomb of Emmetsburg was held Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Lana Williams officiated.
Interment was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Donna Mae Halcomb (Culbertson) was born Sept. 22, 1938, the daughter of James and Mable (Jones) Culbertson of Rippey, IA. She attended Emmetsburg High School and graduated in 1958.
On April 21, 1963 she was united in marriage to Darryl G. Halcomb and was blessed with three children Kimberly Kay, Darryl Gene Jr., and Virginia Lynn.
Darryl and Donna made their home in Emmetsburg. Donna worked for Berkley’s for 16 years until the business closed and moved to Spirit Lake. She worked at Kathleen’s Residential Care for six years before starting at SNC Manufacturing where she retired in 2003.
Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and welcoming eight grandchildren, which she enjoyed watching grow into amazing adults. She liked to watch her oldest grandson, Chris race his stockcar in Algona and watch her youngest granddaughter Alyssa sing in the choir during high school. She also was blessed with ten great-grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Jack play football and buying Girl Scout cookies from Bailee. Most recently she saw two of her great grand-daughters wearing their Halloween costumes. Family was everything.
Donna and Darryl enjoyed camping with family and friends. They were members of the Five Island Camping Club. She also enjoyed her flowers, making calendars or beaded banners for family members and friends, and was always embroidering a quilt of some kind. She was also an animal lover and always had a pet cat or dog by her side.
Donna passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2022 at Palo Alto County Hospital. She was 84.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband Darryl of 43 years in 2006, her parents James and Mable Culbertson, in-laws Marie and Carl Satterlee, two brothers and three sisters, six brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law along with nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her three children Kimberly (Chuck) Mammen, Darryl Jr and Virginia (Darwin) Funez, all of Emmetsburg; eight grandchildren: Chris (Kari) Mammen, Emmetsburg, Brian Mammen, Eagle Grove, Kayla (Brian) Hoeppner, Manson and Bobby Mammen, Emmetsburg, Samantha (Brent) Kajewski, Titonka, Jonathan (Amber) Eldridge, Fairmont, MN, Alyssa Funez and Austin Funez, Emmetsburg; and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving three sisters-in-law.
