Funeral service for Connie Helgeson will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock will officiate. Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg.
Our precious gentle soul, Connie Helgeson, was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023.
She was born on Sept. 15, 1947 in Estherville to Rose and Melvin Nielsen. She has been reunited in Heaven with her husband, Steve, her Mom, her Dad, and her brother, Douglas.
Connie graduated from Ringsted high school and went to work in Emmetsburg. She moved temporarily to Oak View, California, with her sister Judy and husband Russell Eldeb to help them open their business in orthotics and prosthetics.
She returned to Emmetsburg and met and married her husband Steve Helgeson. They were married for over twenty five years before Steve's death.
Connie always had a warm welcome for anyone and no one was a stranger. She enjoyed her church, Bethany Lutheran Church, and served many years folding weekly church programs and monthly newsletters. Highlight of the year for her was the Scandinavian Tea with all the goodies. She would bring her home crafted items for sale there as well.
Connie was a lover of crafts. Her afghans are located far and wide. She did beautiful hand made cards and numerous craft projects.
Connie is survived by her sister Judy, brother-in-law Clayton Helgeson, nieces and nephews and Iowa cousins, including beloved Rhonda, Marsha, and Paul.
The family wants to thank Lakeside Lutheran Home for Connie's excellent care and a loving thank you Rhonda Hand for always being there for Connie's hospital stays. She always felt your love.
Connie will be sorely missed by all of us. May we take a lesson of gentleness from her and pass it forward.
