Carol Darlene (Dyer) Duis, was born April 29, 1939 to Robert "Bob" and Rosella (Abby) Dyer, at their home on a farm north of Ayrshire. She received her education at Ayrshire Consolidated School graduating in 1957.

Carol was trained as a Certified Nurses Assistant and Home Health Assistant. She was employed at the Palo Alto County Health System and worked as a dietary aide at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. Carol also worked in private homes helping individuals as well as the Good Samaritan Home in Laurens, and the Emmetsburg Care Center.

On Sept. 18, 1971, Carol was united in marriage to Henry "Hank" Duis at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with a daughter, Christina. Carol and Hank were foster parents and Carol was a licensed day care provider for several years.

Carol passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 81. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry "Hank"; two infant sisters, Mary and Colleen Dyer; a stepson, Christopher Adam Duis; brothers-in-law, John, William, Edward, Herman, Louis and Robert Duis; sisters-in-laws, Sophie Tamman, Ida Wilden, Edna Nietzel, Marie, Tebbe, Katherine, and Frieda Duis and Emma Rand; as well as many other relatives.

She is survived by her daughter, Christina "Tina" Duis of Emmetsburg; brothers, Ken (Martha) Dyer of Ruthven, and John (Paula) Dyer of Algona; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kassen (Karen) Duis of Panora, Martin (Shirley) Duis of Spencer, and Glenys Duis of Des Moines; and nieces and nephews.

The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
