Butch Ernest Hedberg, 84, passed away on April 30, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
Butch was born on January 19, 1942, in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, to Vernon Hedberg and Melvina (Fors) Hedberg. He graduated from St. Croix Falls High School. On September 16, 1989, he was united in marriage to Letha Frink in Arnold, Nebraska.
Butch was a hardworking man who wore many hats throughout his life. He worked as a farmer, rancher, mechanic, and construction worker, and spent 25 years driving semi-trucks for Crete Carrier before retiring in February of 2012. He was a member of Metz Community Church in Metz, Iowa.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Letha Hedberg; his son, Mike (Carol) Hedberg; his daughter, Michele (Shane) Sells; his step-son, Dick O’Clair; his stepdaughters, Sherry Loder and Marie Gray; his grandchildren, Dillion and Lexie Sells; and his sisters, Lillian Clover, Linda Schwartz, and Carol Dosh.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; his sons-in-law, Rob Loder, Matthew Loder, and Jack Gray; and his sister, Sue Sturm.
A memorial service for Butch will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
