Funeral services for Susan Taylor, 59, of Emmetsburg, Iowa, were held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa
Susan Ann Taylor, daughter of James and Lanora (Hoffman) Sullivan, was born June 7, 1964 in Estherville, Iowa. She began her education in Minneapolis and graduated from Estherville High School. Following graduation, Susan attended one year of nursing school and then went to Faust Beauty School in Storm Lake where she graduated with her license in cosmetology.
Susan had the joy of sharing her life with Barry L. Kathman and raising six children.
Susan was employed at Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake before moving to Palo Alto County. She then went to work at Kathleen’s Residential Center in Emmetsburg where she was employed for twenty two years, caring for individuals with disabilities.
Susan loved going on vacations and camping in South Dakota, the Wisconsin Dells, Colorado or going to Valley Fair in Shakopee, Minnesota. She cherished any time she could spend with her family, especially her grandchildren. Susan was always ready to take a motorcycle ride on her Yamaha. She will be remembered by her family for her willingness to drop whatever she was doing if she could help any one of them.
Susan passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 59. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lanora Sullivan.
She is survived by her husband, Barry Kathman of Ayrshire, IA; her children, Spenser Taylor of Anoka, MN, Catherine Norsten of Coon Rapids, MN, Sara Kathman of Ayrshire, IAa, Valerie Kathman of Emmetsburg, IA, Kristen Kathman of Emmetsburg, IA and Bradley Kathman of Mallard, IA; five grandchildren, Joel, Taylor, James, Madelyn and Marshall; a brother, John (Tawnya) Sullivan of Boone, Iowa; sisters, Julie (Larry) Anderson of Estherville, IA and Lori (Mike) Pritchard of Boone, Iowa; as well as many other relatives and friends.
