When can one donation do a lot of good for a lot of people? When you are donating to UNIFUND.
UNIFUND has been around for many years. Over time, the community organizations participating in the annual fund raising effort have changed. Still, the intent of the once a year fundraiser remains the same.
“Sharing Is Caring” says it all. When Emmetsburg residents share with the community, they show that they are caring people who want to support some very worthy organizations. Let’s go through the list:
Boy Scout Troop #46 has volunteer Scout Masters who share their time and expertise with young Scouts.
Emmetsburg Little League, Emmetsburg/Palo Alto County Soccer parents volunteer their time as coaches. Parents also care for the fields and work in the concession stand. The whole family gets involved.
Emmetsburg Police Reserves work one shift per month. And, these are the people you see working at athletic events, providing security at school and college functions, and working at the county fair -- in a “normal” year.
Emmetsburg Volunteer Fire Department. This group of volunteers is continually training to better serve the community. Keeping up to date with equipment and learning the latest in fire fighting techniques are a definite benefit.
Feed Our Kids - Emmetsburg is a program that meets the needs of hungry children on the weekend, when other resources are not available. This program is available to children who qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program at school, with nutritious, kid-friendly food.
Palo Alto County Child Care Council provides programs on safety, bullying, and sexual abuse prevention for children and adults.
Horizons Unlimited provides opportunities for people with disabilities to develop their full potential.
Hospice of Palo Alto County is designed to support the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those who have life-limiting illnesses or conditions.
Palo Alto County Council on Aging and Multipurpose Center provides a place for seniors to enjoy a nutritious meal, and a place to spend social time together.
Palo Alto County Genealogical Society and Palo Alto County Historical Society are organizations aimed at preserving the history of Palo Alto County.
Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc offers a variety of programs addressing the effects of poverty, improving health and increasing educational opportunities.
Palo Alto County Meals on Wheels is a service provided to elderly residents. Meals are delivered by volunteers.
Palo Alto County Hospital Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who fund and staff a variety of services at Palo Alto County Hospital.
The word “volunteer” shows up a lot in the description of these organizations.
UNIFUND contribution forms were included with billing from Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities this month. Return completed forms to City Hall. If you did not receive a contribution form, call LouAnn Huberty at 712-852-2334 and she will get one to you.
