Funeral service for Ronald J. Chapman of Emmetsburg was held Monday, Nov. 2, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Peter Morlock officiated.

Inurnment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald James Chapman, son of Ronald Clare and Mary Kathryn (Goeders) Chapman, was born Feb. 12, 1943 in Emmetsburg. He received his education in Ruthven, graduating from Ruthven Consolidated School in 1961. Ron was president of his senior class and enjoyed attending and organizing his class reunions. He was very active in 4-H, showing cattle at the county, district, and state levels, and served as president of F.F.A.

Following high school Ron continued his education at Iowa State University. After one year he returned to Ruthven to start farming.

On March 26, 1966 Ron was united in marriage to Sandra Miller at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. The couple made their home near Ruthven where Ron had a registered Holstein dairy herd. To this union three children were born. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he had a special bond with their daughter, Debbie.

Ron and Sandi have had a Shaklee business for 42 years and he enjoyed the many trips they took.

Ron was a faithful and devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg and served on the Lakeside Lutheran Home board, having served as president of both.

Ron passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Mary Chapman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Martha Miller; and brothers-in-law, Joe Brennan, Mike Flannegan and Ron Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi of Emmetsburg; his children, David (Lisa) Chapman of Ruthven, Debbie Chapman of Emmetsburg, and Dan (Tammy) Chapman of Emmetsburg; grandchildren, Cody, Nicholas, Jenna, Joseph, Rachel, Katie and Jillian Chapman; his sisters, Dolores "Dode" (Robert) Tanner of Clear Lake, Arlene Brennan of Iowa City, Juanita Helmke of Emmetsburg, and Marietta Flannegan of Emmetsburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lorraine and David Naig of Emmetsburg, Greg and Ardella Miller of Keokuk, and Rick and Sheila Miller of Waterloo; nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
