A Mass of Christian Burial for Rebecca "Becky" Larson of Mallard was held Monday, Oct. 12, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Celebrant was the Rev. Ed Girres.
Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Mallard. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Rebecca Ann Larson, daughter of Vincent "Pat" and Mae Marie (Zaugg) Schuller, was born Feb. 13, 1950 in Algona. She received her education in Mallard, graduating from Mallard High School in 1968. Following high school, Becky went to work for the Mallard Elevator.
On Nov. 11, 1972 Becky was united in marriage to Lyle Larson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard.
Becky continued her employment at the Mallard Elevator for 39 years. She then was employed as the Mallard City Clerk where she was currently working.
Becky was a devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend, a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard, and Catholic Daughters of the Americas, serving as Regent. Becky was also a member of Friends of Mallard. She organized the annual Holiday Luncheon and Bazaar as well as many city functions.
Becky's love of Mallard ran deep and she was always looking for ways to keep the city alive. She helped to restore the Mallard Duck, initiated interest and development of the new splash pad and city park projects.
As an avid quilter, Becky attended and organized many quilting retreats and always had a quilt in the making. Her family and friends will certainly remember her love of baking, making French Bread, cinnamon rolls and pies for everyone to enjoy. When Becky went to buy flour at the grocery store she never came home with less than 100 pounds. She enjoyed going to Kalona to the Amish Markets and craft shows, looked forward to coffee time on Sundays and loved playing Pinochle.
Becky will be remembered as the most kind hearted, compassionate and caring friend that anyone could ask for. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Becky passed away suddenly on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 70. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother-in-law, Darlow Larson.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Lyle of Mallard; a sister, Cheree (Connie) McKinney of Van Buren, AR; brothers, Bruce (Wanda) Schuller of Boone, and Curt Schuller of California; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ron Larson of Mallard, Gary and Linda Larson of West Des Moines, and Janice Larson of Omaha, NE; many nieces and nephews; numerous friends; and a very special lady, Kelsy Miller and her children, Bailee and Tucker.
