Lawrence ‘Larry’ Herbers

Lawrence "Larry" Herbers, age 71, of Emmetsburg passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Mass of the Christian Burial was held Saturday Feb. 13, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Military rites were conducted at the church by members of the Ayrshire American Legion and the Emmetsburg VFW.

Burial will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The Lentz Funeral Home of Algona assisted the family.

Lawrence Francis Herbers, the son of Eugene and Eileen (Wernimont) Herbers, was born on May 6, 1949, in Emmetsburg. Larry graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1967. He then served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.

On Aug. 14, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Joann Stokes at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Larry farmed on the family farm that he grew up on, retiring five years ago. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, the Ayrshire American Legion and the Emmetsburg VFW.

Larry enjoyed fishing, playing cards, working in his yard, cooking for his family on the grill and smoker, helping in the field and spending time with his grandchildren and going to their activities.

Left to cherish Larry's memory is his wife of 49 years, Joann; daughters, Julie (Mark) Huberty of Sergeant Bluff, Kim Joyce of Emmetsburg and Jackie (Troy) Stanley of Sergeant Bluff; grandchildren, Brandon, Brooklyn and Morgan Huberty, Connor, Keegan and Calista Joyce, and Kaitlyn and Miranda Stanley; brothers, Don (Audrey Ann) Herbers of Milford, David Herbers of Emmetsburg and Paul (Myrna) Herbers of Milford; and sisters, Mary Jane (Dave) Krause of Fenton and Suzanne (Ron) Rouse of Curlew.

Larry Herbers was preceded in death by his parents.
