Funeral service for Jean Paulsen will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Pastor Peter Morlock will officiate. Interment will be at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly, Iowa.
Jean Ann Paulsen, the daughter of Mike and Alice (Binning) Heien, was born Feb. 2, 1935 in Clinton County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Webb, Iowa area, where she received her education.
She married Donald Duane Paulsen on Oct. 12, 1952 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. The couple lived in Everly and Spencer, where she worked at National Spencer for 21 years. They moved to Emmetsburg in 2016. Jean also worked as a “Lunch Lady” at the Everly school for many years and parttime for the Bee Hive for 7 years. After her retirement, she worked for Walmart for a few years. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Jean also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, crocheting, gardening her produce and flowers, doing crafts spending time outdoors and being together with Don.
Jean passed away at the Emmetsburg Care Center on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Diane Paulsen-Spears in 2002, an infant great-grandchild, and her husband, Donald in 2019.
Left to cherish her memory are 2 children, John (Phyllis of Baudette, MN and Jody (Tom) Leuer of Mallard; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; one sister, Janet Durbin of Minneapolis, MN; other relatives; and many friends.
