E-Hawks Take Second at Dick Barrett Boys Relays


ESTHERVILLE -- The E-Hawks would compete in the Dick Barrett Boys Relays at Estherville Friday, placing second overall at the event.

Emmetsburg would have another afternoon of strong individual performances, with multiple top finishes during the event.

"We've seen some good things from both our field events and running events," said Coach Ben Thomsen. "Our seniors are leading the way with their effort and experience. Since we missed last year, our seniors have the most track meets under their belts and are helping guide our underclassmen."

Senior Jordan Anderson would earn a pair of first place finishes in field events. In the shot put, Anderson would launch a distance of 40'05" for the top spot, and in the discus Anderson's effort would yield a throw of 117'06.5" for first place. Joe Chapman would follow closely behind, placing sixth in the shot put with a 34'03" throw and fourth in the discus with a throw 97'10".

In the long jump, Cole Shirk would earn a fourth place finish with a distance of 16'10.5", while Jonah Morlock would place eighth with a 15'07.5" jump.

Ty Morton would place second in the high jump with a 5'06" effort.

Isaac Janssen would place sixth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.74, and Jonah Morlock would place ninth in 2:30.77. In the 1600 meter run, Morlock would earn seventh place with a time of 5:54.21, while Jackson Lowman would place ninth in 6:18.49. Janssen and Lucian Benjamin would compete in the 3200 meter, with Janssen earning fifth place with a time of 12:05.72, and Benjamin sixth place with a time of 13:56.46.

The 800 sprint medley would see Lane Auten, Colby Weir, Ben Dunlap, and Cade Shirk earn a third place finish with a time of 1:45.

In the 4x100 shuttle hurdle, the E-Hawk squad of Cole Shirk, Jace Nelson-Brown, Clayton Rubel, and Cade Shirk would earn second in a time of 1:11.96.

Lane Auten would take third place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.77, while Malachi Douglass would earn sixth in 12.01. The 200 meter dash would see Douglass place fifth with a time of 24.69, and Quentin Ort seventh in 25.22. In the 400 meter, Douglass would place second with a time of 56.77, and Jackson Lowman would place seventh in 1:06.47.

Emmetsburg would earn second place in the distance medley, with Quentin Ort, Lincoln Wilcoxon, Carsen Fjetland, and Jonah Morlock clocking a time of 4:14.43.

In the 4x100 meter relay, Lane Auten, Ty Morton, Ben Dunlap, and Colby Weir would place second in 47.00. The boys would also place second in the 4x200 with a time of 1:39.43. The 4x400 would see Morton, Dunlap, Weir, and Cade Shirk earn a third place finish with a time of 3:47.

The 110 meter hurdles would see Cole Shirk earn third with a time of 16.70, while Cade Shirk would take a close fourth in 17.72. In the 400 meter hurdles, Cole would place second in 1:00.08, and Clayton Rubel would take sixth with a time of 1:08.41.

"The weather hasn't quite cooperated with us and we've missed a meet and a half because of it, so running the meets in the next few weeks will be important," said Coach Thomsen. "We have seen some good improvements as our season starts to get rolling and look forward to seeing more from everyone in the next few weeks."

The E-Hawks head to Spirit Lake today (Tuesday), with the meet set to start at 4:30 p.m.
