Following wins against Sioux Central last Monday night, Emmetsburg boys’ and girls’ basketball teams would fall to tough Newell-Fonda squads on the road Tuesday. The Lady E-Hawks would finish the week with wins over South O’Brien on Thursday and West Bend-Mallard on Friday, while the boys would struggle at Emmetsburg High School Thursday and Friday, falling to South O’Brien and coming up short against the Wolverines.

Tuesday night’s 42-80 loss against a tough 14-1 Newell-Fonda would see the girls overwhelmed early, unable to slow the speed of the Mustang offense. The Lady E-Hawks would continue to fight but would be unable to overcome the significant scoring deficit.

Hosting South O’Brien at Emmetsburg High School Thursday night, Emmetsburg would earn the 52-35 victory through a dominant offensive attack and control of the ball. Under the net, the girls would come away with 30 rebounds on the night.

Friday’s 49-24 win over the Wolverines would be more of the same, with the Lady E-Hawks firing on all cylinders. Senior Abbie Schany would score her 1,000th career point at the free throw line while racking up 18 points on the night.
