Emmetsburg Basketball Defeats West Bend-Mallard

Emmetsburg Basketball would find success on the road against West Bend-Mallard early last week in the only game the teams would play due to weather cancellations. The Lady E-Hawks would defeat the Wolverines 34-28, while the Emmetsburg boys would earn a 63-42 win.

Though the girls would take an early lead, a second quarter offensive struggle would send the Lady E-Hawks to the break down 23-18. A second half surge would spell the difference for Emmetsburg, outscoring West Bend-Mallard by ten points in the third quarter and maintaining the lead to finish the contest with the 34-28 victory.

Abbie Schany would lead the offensive charge, picking up 20 points for Emmetsburg. Schany would go seven of 13 at the free throw line and grab 10 rebounds on the night.

Raegan Swanson would tally five points for the girls including sinking a three-pointer, while Maddy Mueller would put up a three-point shot and grab five steals.


Emmetsburg would hit the court running and maintain momentum throughout last Monday night’s contest. Up by three at the half, the boys would put up a dominant performance on both offense and defense in the third quarter, scoring 20 points to West Bend-Mallard’s six, finishing out the game with the 63-42 win.

Ben Dunlap would tally 18 points on the night, shooting 6/7 in free throws and two for four at the three-point line. Dunlap would pull in 11 rebounds for the E-Hawks and grab six steals.

Tyler Morton would score 12 points for Emmetsburg, sinking three of six three-pointers, while Colby Weir and Keegan Joyce would each pick up eight points on the night.

Emmetsburg hosts Sioux Central tonight (Tuesday) and Estherville Lincoln Central on Thursday.
