Lady E-Hawks Win 3-1 Over Pocahontas Area

The Lady E-Hawks battled their way to a 3-1 victory over Pocahontas Area in Class 2A Regional play Wednesday night at Emmetsburg High School.

The first set would see Emmetsburg take an early lead with an aggressive offensive attack, taking an early 10-3 lead and not letting up to finish with a score of 25-10.

In the second set, the Lady E-Hawks would trail Pocahontas Area early, 4-9. Gradually working their way back and at one point seeing a four point advantage, Emmetsburg would ultimately stall at 22 points to fall 22-25.

The Lady E-Hawks would battle back in the third set and get a close victory, coming from a six point deficit to overtake Pocahontas Area, 25-23.

The fourth set would see Emmetsburg get a slow start but again overtake Pocahontas Area midway to finish with the 25-18 win.

Abbie Schany would lead the Lady E-Hawk offensive attack with 16 kills in four sets, while Macy McAllister put up 14 kills and Maddy Mueller crushed 10.

On defense, Mueller would pick up 16 digs, Raegan Swanson would dig out 10, and Schany would dig eight. Emily Schany would tally three of Emmetsburg’s five blocks on the night, with McAllister knocking down the other two.

Emma Auten would serve up 22 of 24 with one ace on the night, while Mueller went 20 for 21 in serves with two aces.

Abbie Schany served 12 of 15 and McAllister went 11 of 14 in serves with three aces.

Emily Schany would serve a perfect 10 for 10 in four sets and Swanson served five of seven.

The win gave Emmetsburg a 17-6 overall mark on the season, advancing them to the next round of play which took place on Monday night against South Central Calhoun. At press time, scores were not yet available. See Thursday’s The Democrat for details.
