Ready for Round Two
E-Hawks to Battle Knights
by Joseph Schany
After a dominant 49-6 first round performance against Eagle Grove last week, the E-Hawks prepare for round two of postseason play, hosting Kuemper Catholic on Friday under the lights of Duane Twait Field.
The 2-6 Knights come to Emmetsburg after last week’s 16-8 win over Pocahontas Area, scoring a touchdown on a fumble recovery and kicking three field goals for the victory. Kuemper Catholic has put up 787 yards through the air and over 1,000 yards on the ground this season.
“The Knights are a really athletic team,” said E-Hawk Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “They’ve got great team speed. They are way better than their record indicates. They’ve played some really good teams this season and I think all of their losses come from teams still in the playoffs.”
Last week the E-Hawks continued their success on the ground, rushing for 322 yards against Eagle Grove and scoring seven rushing touchdowns.
“I thought Friday night was a great team win, top to bottom,” said Dunlap. “I thought our kids came out of the shoot and played very, very well on offense, very well on defense. I thought our two’s came in and did an exceptional job moving the ball, scoring touchdowns, and stopping the Eagles on defense. It was just a total team effort.”
According to Dunlap, the E-Hawks continue to work hard to prepare for this Friday’s postseason matchup.
“The teams that continue to work and continue to improve are the teams that end up where they want to be at the end of the season.”
