After another shutout win on the road last week in Sioux Rapids, the Emmetsburg E-Hawks look to improve on their 4-0 start to the season, traveling to Sibley-Ocheyedan High School this Friday to battle the 3-1 Generals.

It’s going to be a tough game with tough competitors,” said Head Coach Mike Dunlap. “Their quarterback is very athletic and throws the ball well. They have good size on their team. The Generals also have experience, with a lot of seniors having played the last three years. We will have to be at our best.”

The Generals will enter the contest with a 3-1 overall record, falling to Western Christian 27-7.

Emmetsburg hits the road after back-to-back shutout wins – 41-0 over Hinton and last week’s 27-0 victory over Sioux Central.

Last week’s win saw the E-Hawks find further success in the running game, picking up 230 yards on the ground thanks in large part to solid blocking at the offensive line. Colby Weir ran for 106 yards on the night, while Cole Shirk rushed for 94. However, penalties plagued the contest, with the E-Hawks losing 142 yards on 18 penalties.

“We obviously need to clean up some penalties,” said Coach Dunlap, “but we are continuing to improve on the offensive and defensive lines and seeing some real success in our run game.”

Defensively, Emmetsburg has managed to contain offenses throughout the season. Last week, the E-Hawks held the Rebels to just 74 yards on the ground and 68 through the air.
