The Lady E-Hawks would face a 0-3 setback against 13th-ranked Newell-Fonda on Thursday night in a hard-fought battle on the court. Emmetsburg fell to the Mustangs with scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 27-25.

The Lady E-Hawks would keep pace with Newell-Fonda early, breaking through a stout Mustang defense to get points on the board. Midway through the first set, Newell-Fonda’s Ella Larsen would break out at the net, scoring successive kills to give the Mustangs the lead and the subsequent win. Larsen would finish the night with 16 kills against the Lady E-Hawks.

The second set would see Emmetsburg struggle to get past Newell-Fonda’s blocking. While playing aggressively overall, the Lady E-Hawks could not seem to come away with the needed points to bridge the gap, falling by 10 points.

In the third set, the Lady E-Hawks would get behind early, but come back strong midway through with key stops at the net and aggressive attacks up front. Emmetsburg would fall just short of the win to end the game.

The Lady E-Hawks fought hard throughout the contest. Abbie Schany and Macy McAllister would lead the Lady E-Hawk attack with seven kills each. McAllister would pick up 11 digs and serve a perfect 12 for 12 on the night while Schany tallied three digs and served eight for nine.

Maddy Mueller picked up six kills against the Mustangs, digging out 12 shots and serving seven for nine with two aces. Sierra Wolff and Bayleigh Theesfeld each had four kills, with Wolff tallying four digs and serving six for seven with one ace.

Emma Auten would serve up 11 for 12 and crush two aces on the night. Auten would also rack up 20 assists for the Lady E-Hawks.

Emmetsburg moves to 2-2 overall and will travel to Manson Northwest Webster tonight (Tuesday).
