E-Hawk Season Ends in 6-3 Loss at Garner
by Joseph Schany
GARNER – Despite a strong start and out-hitting Garner-Hayfield seven to four, the E-Hawks would come up short during Saturday’s Class 2A District contest, falling to the Cardinals in a 6-3 setback to close out the season.
Lex Kassel would give Emmetsburg an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, crushing a home run to left field that cleared the bases and sent Bun Dunlap and Keegan Joyce in for the score.
The E-Hawks would maintain the lead until the bottom of the third, when a pair of runs would give the Cardinals a 4-3 advantage. Garner-Hayfield would score again in the fifth to bring the score to 6-3.
The E-Hawks would show some promising at bats with singles from Dunlap, Kassel, and Cole Shirk in an effort to regain control of the contest in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Cardinal defense would hold fast on key Emmetsburg pop outs to walk away with the win.
