Lady E-Hawks Fight Back in Close Loss

By Staff | Jun 18, 2020

IT’S GONE - Cheyanne Fries hits the scoreboard for a home run in the third inning on Monday night.

Despite an 8-run deficit in the fifth inning, the Lady E-Hawks almost came all the way back, eventually falling 10-9 to Sioux Central on Monday.

“The game wasn’t what we hoped for our first game of the season,” said Head Coach Travis Birkey.

The girls scored eight runs in the failed comeback on a single by Cheyanne Fries in the fifth, a walk by Molly Schany in the fifth, a walk by Brie Madden in the fifth, a groundout by Abbie Schany in the fifth, an error in the seventh, and a double by Macy McAllister in the seventh.

“I liked how our girls fought back from being down 9-1,” said Birkey. “We had chances in the bottom of the seventh to tie or win but we didn’t get that last hit that we needed.”

The Lady E-Hawks launched one home run on the day, when Fries hit the scoreboard in the third inning. Fries would lead the girls with two hits in four at bats.

“We talked about getting out of the gate fast with a shortened game schedule but we will get back to work in practice and get ready for Wednesday’s game against Manson.”
