E-Hawks Fall to Sioux Central in Season Opener
The E-Hawks would watch the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-2 season opener loss to Sioux Central Monday night.
Sioux Central would score early on a walk by Carter Boettcher and a walk by Gibson Olson in the second inning.
The E-Hawks struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Sioux Central, giving up 12 runs.
“Obviously the outcome of the game was disappointing,” said Head Coach Brett Hansen. “We made too many self-inflicted mistakes. We can’t walk as many batters as we did and expect to win. We also have to do a better job of putting the ball in play on offense.”
Ben Dunlap would take the loss for the E-Hawks. He went one and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on one hit and striking out three.
Cole Keller would lead the E-Hawks with two hits in four at bats.
“It was a great night for our fans and players to get back to watching and playing baseball again,” said Hansen. “It felt great to have some normalcy back in our lives. We have a lot of things that we need to work on but I believe that we have the right players and coaches for the job. We can only get better. It’s not about how we start the season, it is about how we finish.”
