After a challenging 2018-2019 season, the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine wrestling program looks for a significant improvement as they take the mat tonight, Thursday, Dec. 5, to begin their season in a dual at Storm Lake High School against Emmetsburg, Pocahontas Area, Sioux Central, and Storm Lake.

A year ago, the Wolverines struggled to get the win over their opponents, finding only one team victory in a 40-23 dual win over North Union in December.

This season, West Bend-Mallard will look to their seniors for leadership, with Connor Fehr leading the charge.

Fehr came close to punching his ticket to state competition at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines in the 2018-2019 season, but faced a setback against Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire’s Spencer Roth in the year’s final meet and fell in the 160 pound bout.

Coach Peyton Rice and the Wolverine wrestling squad will also look to the returning few wrestlers on the team to provide the necessary experience to help guide the young squad.

As the 2019-2020 season gets underway, West Bend-Mallard hopes to find success on the mat with their small but dedicated group of young men.
