WEST BEND – The West Bend-Mallard (WBM) Wolverine girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are gearing up for their first games of the 2019-2020 season. Both Wolverine teams will face the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans on Tuesday, Dec. 3 for their season opening contests.

Head Coach Jim Zinnel and the Wolverine girls bring a more experienced group of young women to the court this season. Losing only one senior to graduation, WBM returns a number of players who have spent precious time on the court.

Led by junior Rachel Fehr, who averaged 7.4 points a game last season, junior Monika Fehr, who averaged 6.6, and senior Morgan Schmidt, who averaged 6.4, the Wolverines will be putting up a fight and plan to improve from a 5-16 overall record from just a year ago.

Head Coach Jerry Zaugg and the Wolverine boys will look to consistency to be the difference in the 2019-2020 season, playing hard every game. Last year, the WBM boys struggled to finish out the season, falling to Newell-Fonda after a seven-game losing streak and finishing the season 5-15 overall.

Losing seven seniors to graduation last year, the returning seniors will provide the necessary leadership for the Wolverines, led by senior Thomas Fehr, who scored 305 points and averaged 15.3 points a game a year ago. Defensively, Fehr fought under the basket, grabbing 96 rebounds for the Wolverines.

Fehr will be assisted by senior Mason Link, who put up 97 points a season ago, grabbing 57 rebounds for the Wolverines.
