E-Hawk Thinclads Open Season At Dordt Indoor Meet
SIOUX?CENTER – Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks got a taste of the upcoming track and field season last Monday with an appearance at the Dordt High School Invitational. The E-Hawks were able to compete in several events and record some good starting times to build on their upcoming season.
To open the meet, Blake VerMulm won the 55 meter dash with his :06.95 clocking, while teammate Ben Dunlap finished 32nd with an :08.02 time.
Moving to the 200 meter dash, Blake VerMulm earned a second place finish with a time of :24.58 and Ethan Berven finished 10th in a time of :26.43, while Logan Murray finished in 26th place with a time of :31.03.
Wesleigh Plantz competed in the 800 meter run where he finished 21st in a time of 3:17.24.
For the 1600 meter run, Cruz Bowman finished ninth in a time of 5:17.78, while Dawson Moen finished 11th in a time of 5:25.29. Adam Deitering would finish in 16th place with a time of 5:51.20 and Jacob Frields was 21st with his 6:27.24 clocking.
Niklas Klums would take first place honors in the 55 meter high hurdles with his time of :08.50. In the 55 meter los hurdles, Cole Shirk earned 11th place with a time of :09.40.
For the 200 meter hurdle even, Niklas Klums would claim the top spot, finishing first in a time o f:27.60.
Moving into relay action, the E-Hawks’ 4×200 relay of Cole Shirk, Ben Dunlap, Mason Griffin and Colby Weir, earned a 10th place finish with a time of 2:50.42, while the foursome of Jacob Myers, Flavio Panci, Andrew Walker and Clayton Swanson finished 14th in a tim of 1:53.84, while the relay composed of Gauje Hayenga, Wesleigh Plantz, Jose Alcala and Cole Keller finished in 18th place with a time of 1:59.89.
The 4×400 relay squad of Niklas Klums, Ethan Berven, Jon Lace II?and Blake VerMulm finished in sixth place in 3:55.86, while the relay comprised of Cole Keller, Ben Dunlap, Mason Griffin and Colby Weir finished 10th with a 4:08.53 clocking. The foursome of Jacob Myers, Flavio Panci, Andrew Walker and Clayton Swanson turned in a 4:18.06 clocking to finish in 16th place in the event.
Emmetsburg’s 4×800 relay team, comprised of Cruz Bowman, Jacob Frields, Adam Deitering and Dawson Moen, earned an eighth place finish with their time of 9:27.43.
In Field events, Ethan Berven finished in ninth place in the long jump with a leap of 15’10”, while Cole Shirk was 10th with a leap of 15’4″ and Colby Weir finished 11th with his jump of 14’5″.
In the shot put competition, Jimmie Steffens threw 36’6″ to finish in 13th place, while Jon Lace finished 20th with a throw of 32’9″. Joe Chapman would throw the orb 28’7″ to finish 29th and Logan Murray finished 32nd with a throw of 26’11”.
The outdoor season is slated to begin Tuesday, April 3 at Spencer, starting at 4:30 p.m.
