GT/RA Girls Win, Fall In Regional Semi-Final
The Titan girls of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire earned a quarterfinal regional win last Tuesday evening with a 56-28 win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s.
However, the Titans would see their season end in a heartbreaking 44-40 loss to the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan last Friday night to end their season with a mark of 16-9.
In Tuesday’s contest at Storm Lake, the Titans started slowly, taking an 8-4 lead over the Panthers in the first quarter of play. In the second quarter, GT/RA’s offense erupted for 24 points, while the defense held St. Marys to a lone bucket for a 32-6 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, the Titans would settle in to take a 45-17 lead after three quarters and went on to earn the 56-28 victory.
Toni Alesch led the scoring with 17 points while Madison Norris added 13 points. Emma Heinrichs scored nine points, while Chloe Bakken added eight points. Anna Sorensen tallied four points and Taylor Park and Madison Hough both had two points with Emma Baak adding one point.
On Friday night, the Titans traveled to Algona to meet Bishop Garrigan for the Regional Semi-Final, but would fall in a 44-40 final score.
GT/RA would take an early 11-8 lead after the opening quarter of play, and both teams would match bucket for bucket and score 13 points each, but the Titans held a 24 to 21 lead at half-time.
The two defenses tightened up in the third quarter as the Golden Bears cut the Titans lead to a 29-28 margin. But down the stretch, the Golden Bears got two more buckets to earn the 44-40 win over the Titans.
For the Titans, Toni Alesch scored 16 points, while Emma Heinrichs and Madison Hough both scored six points each. Anna Sorenson scored five points, while Madison Norris chipped in three points and Taylor Park and Chloe Bakken both added two points each to end GT/RA’s season.
