Lady E-Hawks’ Season Ends In Regional Quarterfinal At North Union
ARMSTRONG – The post season came to a halt Tuesday night for Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks, as they fell in a 52-17 loss to North Union. The 2A Quarterfinal loss ends Emmetsburg’s campaign with a mark of 15-7 for the season.
Emmetsburg got off to a quick start with a pair of three-point buckets in the first three minutes of the game and led 6-2 before North Union found their footing and took over. Emmetsburg would go scoreless the rest of the opening quarter as the Warriors’ man-to-man defense simply shut Emmetsburg down.
Trailing 15-6 to start the second quarter, the Lady E-Hawks tried to break through the defense, but managed a lone basket in the frame as North Union expanded its lead to 28-8 at the intermission.
The tone of the game didn’t change much in the second half, as North Union continued to play a near-flawless man-to-man defense that simply would not allow the Emmetsburg offense a clear look inside. However, the Lady E-Hawks were able to capitalize on a few momentary lapses by the Warrior defense to add five points to their tally to trail 39-13 at the end of the third quarter.
Down the stretch, Emmetsburg would continue to battle their hardest against North Union, but the Warriors were able to maintain their defense and limited Emmetsburg to just four points in the final eight minutes of play to end the season for the Lady E-Hawks in the 52-17 final tally.
For Emmetsburg, the scoring was limited as Abbie Schany was held to just nine points on the night. Molly Schany and Lindsay Carter accounted for the two three-point buckets in the first quarter, and Raven Brown broke through for two points to round out Emmetsburg’s scoring for the season.
The Lady E-Hawks bid farewell to their lone senior, Maggie Jackson, who saw several minutes of action in the final contest of the season.
