Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawks opened their post-season play Saturday night with a convincing 52-36 win over Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn. The win improves Emmetsburg to 15-6 on the year as they will advance to play North Union at Armstrong on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

Emmetsburg would open the game Saturday night with a strong defensive effort against the Hawks, taking a 19-13 lead after the opening quarter of play. The defense would step up big in the second quarter, forcing several turnovers and limiting HMS to just five points in the second frame, while the lady E-Hawks would edge out to a 33-18 advantage at the halftime break.

Emmetsburg’s offense cooled in the second half, however, as they would only score 10 points in the third quarter, while Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn scored just nine points to make the score 43-27 going into the final stanza.

The Lady E-Hawks would continue to play a solid defensive game down the stretch, limiting the Hawks to just nine more points, and brought the reserves in to close out the game for the 52-36 final.

Abbie Schany would lead the offense with 16 points, while Molly Schany added 13 points and Lindsay Carter chipped in 12 points.

Raven Brown would tally six points, with Gretchen Hofstad adding three points and Mackenzie King chipping in two points.
