GT/RA Titan Boys Split Week’s Contests

GRAETTINGER – The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven Ayrshire earned a split in their boys basketball games last week. On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the Titans fell to Newell-Fonda by a 53-62 tally, but came back on Friday night to earn a 67-62 victory over Sioux Central. The wins give GT/RA’s boys a mark of 8-3 in the Twin Lakes Conference and a 13-6 overall mark on the season.

In Thursday’s contest with Newell-Fonda, the Titans and the Mustangs battled evenly through the first quarter for an 11-11 tie and GT/RA edged out to a 30-27 lead at the halftime break.

But in the third quarter, the Titans’ offense went cold, as Newell-Fonda outscored the Titans 17-6 to take a 44-36 lead into the final quarter and went on to earn the 62-53 win.

For the Titans, Jacob Conlon led the effort with 20 points, while Tom Geelan came away with 13 points. Chris Conlon would tally eight points in the effort, while Tyson Kruse and Kadin Norris both scored six points each.

Friday night the Titans would regroup as they took on Sioux Central, and posted a 19-15 lead after one quarter and repeating the effort in the second frame for a 38-26 lead at the intermission. In the third quarter, GT/RA held their lead for a 54-41 lead going into the final quarter of play. But in the final quarter, Sioux Central made a run at the Titans, outscoring GT/RA 21-13 in the final frame, but it was too little too late as the Titans held on for the 67-62 final margin of victory.

The Titans would get 26 points from Jacob Conlon and 12 points from Chris Conlon. Tyson Kruse tallied a double-double for the Titans with 10 points and 14 rebounds, while Tom Geelan added 10 points to the tally. Brady Rosacker would come away with seven points and Kadin Norris rounded out the scoring with two points.
