E-Hawks Earn Second At Clear Lake Invitational Tourney
CLEAR?LAKE -Emmetsburg’s E-Hawk wrestlers finished second at Saturday’s Clear Lake Invitational, finishing with four individual champions and three second place finishers.
Earning championships were Christian Nichols at 120 pounds, Ethan Berven at 132 pounds, Spencer Griffin at 138 pounds and Jimmie Steffens at 220 pounds. Second place finishes were earned by Bret Hoyman at 145 pounds, Mason Griffin at 152 pounds and Jon Lace II?at 170 pounds.
At 120 pounds, Christian Nichols earned a 1:56 win by fall and a :27 win by fall before pinning Aaron Canchola of Clear Lake in 5:58 to win the title
Ethan Berven would win at 132 with a 2:46 win by fall and a 1:01 win by fall before he won a 14-2 Major Decision over Teryn Joebgen of North Butler to win his first title.
At 138 pounds, Spencer Griffin had a bye and then took a 3:29 win by fall before scoring a 1:43 win by fall over Cole Johnson of Algona for his title.
And at 220 pounds, Jimmie Steffens had a by and won a 5-4 decision before winning the championship with a 14-7 decision over Trace Engel of North Butler.
At 145 pounds, Bret Hoyman earned 10-5 decision win and a 5-2 decision before he was pinned in 4:41 by Braxton Doebel of Clear Lake to place second.
Mason Griffin opened with a bye but won a 7-4 decision before he lost a 7-2 decision to Dylan Koresh of Charles City to finish in second place at 152 pounds.
In action at 170 pounds, Jon Lace II would earned 1:39 win by fall and won a 6-0 decision, but was pinned in 1:35 by Brandon Trees of North Butler to finish second.
Levi Aldous finished third at 126 pounds with a opening bye, but was pinned in 3:04 before earning a :58 win by fall and then won the third place match with a 4:35 win by fall over Trevor Brinkman of North Butler.
Jackson Knight placed fouth at 160 with a 6-2 decision, but lost a 5-0 decision before winning an 11-0 Major Decision, but lost a 5-1 decision to Elliott Sinnwell of Charles City to finish fourth.
Evan Brennan finished fourth at 285 after being pinned in :48 and earning a bye, before earning a 2:38 win by fall before being pinned in 2:43 by Tylor Zuspan of Charles City.
At 145, Brad Wirtz would win by fall in 2:00 and a 5-2 decision, but injury defaulted and then placed fifth with a :48 win by fall over Thomas Gansen of Clear Lake.
Nick Schany took fifth at 182 after losing an 11-6 decision before earning a :32 win by fall, but losing a 3-1 decision before he won a 13-0 Major Decision over Dalton Mennenga of Clear Lake.
At 113, Kaleb Schliesman lost a 19-4 Technical Fall and was eliminated when he was pinned in 5:33.
