Lady E-Hawks Edged In Double Overtime

LAKE?CITY – The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks would put up a valiant fight Friday night in a Twin Lakes conference game with South Cental Calhoun, but came up a bucket short in a double overtime, 56-54 loss. The loss gives Emmetsburg a 2-1 mark in the Twin Lakes and 3-3 mark overall going into the final week of the first half of the season.

Emmetsburg would fall behind early Friday, trailing 12-8 after the opening quarter, but caught the Titans in the second quarter to trail by a single point, 26-27 at the half time break.

In the third quarter, Emmetsburg found their offensive flow, outscoring the Titan girls 10-4 in the quarter to take a 36-31 lead into the fourth quarter, but South Central Calhoun would outscore the Lady E-Hawks 15-10 to tie the game up at 46-46 and send the contest into overtime.

Both teams would manage three buckets each in the first overtime for a 52-52 score, which would prompt a second overtime period. Emmetsburg continued to battle hard in the final four minute period, but a last-second shot that would have tied and forced a third overtime rimmed around and out at the buzzer as South Central Calhoun escaped with the 56-54 win over Emmetsburg.

Leading the Lady E-Hawks was Abbie Schany with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Raven Brown also added 13 points and Lindsay Carter added 11 points. Molly Schany came away with eight points, while Gretchen Hofstad scored three and Hailey Foxhoven, Mackenzie King and Mikayla Frerichs all scored two points each.
