Titans Bow Out Of Post Season Play

ALGONA – The post season came to a close Monday night for Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire. The Titan netters fell to Bishop Garrigan by a 3-1 tally in Class 1A Regional quarterfinal play. The loss closed out the Titans’ season with a final mark of 13-16 overall.

In Monday’s match, the Titans would win the first set of the match by a score of 25-21 over the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan, only to fall in the second set 15-25. In game three, the Golden Bears took a 25-19 win and then won the match with a 25-9 decision to end GT/RA’s season.

For the Titans, Kylea Fehr and Anna Sorenson would both make 28 attacks each in the match and both hitters drilled down four kills. Kylea Fehr added eight digs and made seven of her eight serving attempts while Anna Sorenson had four digs and three blocks.

Emma Heinrichs made 24 attacks with five kills and dug out 11 shots while completing 15 of her 16 serves with three ace serves.

Madison Hough came away with 22 attacks and three kills, along with three digs and three blocked shots.

Toni Alesch would make 18 attacks with four kills to her credit, and dug out nine shots with a solo block and 15 of 16 serves with two aces to her credit.

Taylor Park would make five attacks with a kill, but dug out 19 shots in the match, while making 11 of 11 serves with one ace.

Madison Norris added four attacks with two kills, and dug out 14 shots, while making 10 of 11 serving attempts with one ace. Norris also handed out 21 assists to her teammates.

Chloe Bakken would make one attack and dug out eight shots while making nine of nine serves with one ace serve.

“It was a tough battle Monday night,” admitted Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Head Coach Ashley Dreeszen. “We came out strong in the first set and during the first set we put up some solid blocks and we were hitting hard. The second set brought some struggles, as we had a hard time communicating and got stuck in a couple rotations and we couldn’t fight back from it.”

Dreeszen continued, “The third set we played strong. We were hitting hard but they were just all over the court. We had a hard time finding a hole in their defense.I was incredibly proud of the effort the girls gave. We had a great season and this team has improved so much. the amount of progress that they all made this year was outstanding. I am extremely proud to be a part of this team and the GT/RA Community.
