Lady E-Hawks Rally For Win In 11-Inning Marathon

It took 11-innings of battle Tuesday night before a walk gave the Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks a 4-3 win over South O’Brien. The win gives Emmetsburg a 13-16 mark on the season.

South O’Brien would score two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead, while Emmetsburg could only strand leadoff hitter Macy McAllister at second base when the inning ended. The Wolverines would be retired in order in the top of the second, but the Lady E-Hawks got a run back when Annie Brennan led off with a base hit but was put out on Emma Anderson’s fielders’ choice. Anderson would come around to score off a wild pitch after Parker Traub singled, but Traub was left waiting when the inning ended.

South O’Brien went down in order in the third, but Emmetsburg would strand Macy McAllister and Sarah Simington in their half of the inning. The Wolverines stranded two runners in the top of the fourth as Emmetsburg went down in order in the defensive battle.

The Wolverines would get a run in the top of the fifth after a walk as an error allowed the run to score for a 3-1 advantage, but the Lady E-Hawks would be shut down in order to end the fifth. In the sixth, the Wolverines would leave a runner waiting at third base when Emmetsburg made the defensive stop.

The Lady E-Hawks would get a walk for Molly Schany with one out, and Schany would come around to score off a wild pitch after an error put Emma Anderson on base and Abbie Schany drew a walk, but the duo would be left waiting along with Annie Brennan when the inning ended with Emmetsburg trailing 3-2.

South O’Brien would be retired in order in the top of the seventh inning and Emmetsburg came up to bat. A?quick out was followed by a hit by Macy McAllister and Sarah Simington got on base off an error before McAllister was put out on a fielders’ choice for Kate Jackson’s at-bat. Molly Schany drew a walk before Simington tied the game up before Annie Brennan was hit by a pitch to reload the bases before the inning ended.

Going into the eighth frame, South O’Brien would strand a runner in their at-bat, and Emmetsburg went down in order.

The Wolverines went down in order in the top of the ninth, and Emmetsburg would strand Molly Schany.

South O’Brien threatened in the top of the tenth with runners and first and second but the Emmetsburg defense stood firm to stop the threat. In their half of the inning, the Lady E-Hawks would get a base hit from Morgan Jamison, but she was left waiting at second when the inning ended.

In the top of the 11th inning, South O’Brien went down one out and then got runners on base of an error and two walks with two outs before a grounder to Sarah Simington at third was relayed to Molly Schany at first for the put out to escape once again.

In the bottom of the inning, Emmetsburg led off with Macy McAllister hit a leadoff single, and advanced off an error on Sarah Simington’s at-bat. Kate Jackson was put out on a sacrifice bunt for the first out and Molly Schany hit a single to load the sacks.

Annie Brennan stepped up to the plate and worked the South O’Brien pitcher, Katelyn Tewes, to a full count before drawing a walk that scored Macy McAllister for the game-winning run.

Mikayla Frerichs would earn the win in the circle, going 11 innings, giving up three unearned runs off four hits, with five walks and eight strikeouts.

Emmetsburg would get four hits from Macy McAllister, while Sarah Simington added three hits. Molly Schany added a pair of hits while Annie Brennan, Parker Traub and Morgan Jamison all added hits to the marathon win.
