Lady E-Hawks Win Regional Golf Opener
EAGLE GROVE – Fresh off their fifth consecutive Lakes Conference tournament title, Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawk golf team survived a lightning delay and humid conditions Monday to win the Class 2A Regional tournament at Eagle Grove. Emmetsburg would shoot a team total 371 to beat out second-place finisher Ogden by 21 strokes.
Additionally, Emmetsburg seniors Allison Freeman and Sarah Pugh also qualified for advancement as individuals into next Monday’s Regional Final at the Rice Lake Golf Course in Lake Mills.
The Lady E-Hawks’ Allison Freeman would earn the meet medalist honors on Monday with her rounds of 38 and 44 to card an 82-stroke score. Runner-up medalist honors went to Hannah Carter of Ogden with an 88.
Emmetsburg would also get rounds of 43 and 48 from Sarah Pugh for a 91-stroke total, which was good for a third place finish in the individual competition.
Parker Traub would shoot a round of 50 over the first nine and then closed out with a 49 to add a 99, while Molly McCain shot a 49 and a 50 to also tally a 99 to give Emmetsburg the 371 stroke team score.
Gretchen Hofstad would shoot a round of 49 and a 52 for a 101-stroke total and Gillian Nolan carded rounds of 53 and 57 to tally a 110 stroke total.
The Lady E-Hawks will travel to the Regional Final on Monday in Lake Mills and with a first or second place finish, would qualify for the Class 2A Girls State Golf Tournament to be played at the Jester Park Golf Course near Granger. The State tournament is May 30-31
