Wolverine Hoopsters Fall To Sioux Central
SIOUX?RAPIDS – The Lady Wolverines and Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate dropped a pair of Twin Lakes Conference games last Friday to Sioux Central.
In the girls game, WBM/GCB would fall by a 55-33 tally to the Rebels. The game started with Sioux Central taking a 13-8 advantage after the first quarter of play, and extending their lead to 37-10 after limiting the Lady Wolverines to just two points in the second quarter.
The third quarter was a turnaround as WBM/GCB outscored Sioux Central 18-5 in the period, making the scored 28-42 to start the final stanza of play.
But down the stretch, West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate’s shooting went cold, as the Lady Wolverines were only able to hit five points down the stretch for the 55-33 final score.
Taylor Fogarty paced the WBM/GCB offense with 21 points and nine board, while Trissa Schmidt added six points to the effort. Abby Zaugg and Morgan Schmidt both scored two points each and Laura Fehr and Autumn Mogler each added a free throw for one point each.
In the boys contest, the Wolverines fell by a 50-37 tally to the Rebels.
The Wolverines struggled in the first quarter, scoring seven points as Sioux Central took an 11-7 advantage, and would trail 16-23 at the halftime intermission.
West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate continued to struggle in the second half, scoring 10 points in the third quarter as the Rebels added 16 points to their lead for a 39-26 lead going into the final quarter.
Down the stretch, both teams matched bucket for bucket to score 11 points each, but Sioux Central had the advantage for the 50-37 margin of victory.
For the Wolverine offense, Thomas Fehr led the way with nine points and Dan Riesenberg added eight points. Michael Fehr scored seven points, while Jeff Riesenberg added six points. Niccio Vergine and Dexter Knobloch both scored two and Nick Ford added one point.
