GT/RA Titans Come Up Big In Homecoming Win
GRAETTINGER It was the perfect ending to Homecoming week for the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/ Ruthven-Ayrshire as they earned a 50-20 win over Remsen St. Mary’s in action Friday night at Rod Hough Field in Graettinger.
The win improves the Titans to 3-1 in Eight Man District One and 5-1 overall on the season as they prepare to play at Royal this Friday against Clay Central-Everly.
GT/RA would start out quickly, using the running of Kolton Roth to spark the offense through the contest. Roth would score two touchdowns in the first quarter off runs of one yard and 13 yards, as well as a two-point conversion run to give the Titans a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Remsen St. Mary’s would get on the scoreboard early in the second quarter, but the Titans answered quickly as Simon Cahling scampered into the end zone from three-yards away with 8:04 to play in the half. The conversion try failed but GT/RA would hold a 20-8 lead at the intermission.
In the second half, Remsen St. Mary’s would try to engineer a rally as they came up with a five-yard touchdown on the opening possession of the half to cut the Titans’ lead to 20-14. But GT/RA wasn’t flustered as they settled back into their game plan and answered with a pair of touchdowns of their own in the quarter. Jacob Conlon got the call and produced touchdown runs of 17 and 11 yards and with a two-point conversion from Kolton Roth, the Titans edged out to a 34-14 lead to start the final period.
With a solid lead, the Titans turned to Kolton Roth again and he delivered a 38-yard run to start the fourth quarter and added the two-point conversion for a 42-14 advantage. Remsen St. Mary’s would counter with a 15-yard touchdown run with 7:26 left in the game but Kolton Roth blocked the extra point attempt for a 42-20 score.
The Titans would wrap up the game with just over 2:00 to play when Kolton Roth bulled into the end zone from two-yards out and Simon Cahling ran in the conversion for the 50-20 final tally.
Kolton Roth ran for 249 yards and four touchdowns while Jacob Conlon ran for 13 yards and two touchdowns for the Titans. Jacob Conlon completed two of five passes for 44 yards, with Nate Larson making a 22-yard reception and Chris Conlon catching a 20-yard toss.
On the defensive side, Eric Sundall made nine tackles, while Kolton Roth added eight stops. Simon Cahling came up with seven tackles. Sam Skattebo recovered a fumble and Jacob Conlon intercepted a pair of passes.
