Emmetsburg’s E-Hawks coninue play in Class 1A District action this Friday night by hosting the Pioneers of Okoboji at Duane Twait Field. After a tough 48-6 loss to Western Christian last Friday night, E-Hawk Head Coach Mike Dunlap saw positives in the loss.

“We had stretches were we moved the football well on them, and created situations they didn’t like,”?Dunlap noted. “But we also made some mistakes that are correctable, and we know the things that we need to do as we go on.”

With a 1-1 mark in the district, the E-Hawks continue on by hosting the Pioneers, who will offer a 4-4 defensive alignment against the E-Hawk offense on Friday night.

“Offensively, they are somewhat of a spread offense,”?Dunlap noted. “They are about 45 percent run and 55 percent passing based. They use the toss and blast and in the shotgun they run doubles.”

Dunlap continued, “Okoboji has good athletes. They are as big as us, have decent size and speed, so it will be a good matchup.”

For the E-Hawks to get back on the winning track, though, Dunlap says the key is continued improvement. “We continue to improve and will need to improve on all phases of our game; offense, defense and special teams.”

“We are playing in what has to be one of the toughest, if not the toughest 1A district in the state,”?Dunlap said.

“Our kids are working hard but we see some very high-quality teams every week when we play.”
