Lady E-Hawks Finish Second In Own Tourney

Emmetsburg’s Lady E-Hawk volleyball team won the pool play portion of their invitational tournament on Saturday, and would earn a runner up finish behind Bishop Garrigan to close out the day.

Coach Jessica Bieber’s Lady E-Hawks opened the tournament with a win over Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire by scores of 21-9 and 21-18, and then defeated Storm Lake 2-1 by scores of 2118, 18-21 and 15-10. Against Bishop Garrigan, Emmetsburg lost the first game 19-21, but rallied to win 23-21 and 15-9 to earn the right to play in the Championship match with a 6-2 pool-play record.

Meeting Bishop Garrigan, who finished pool play 5-4, Emmetsburg fell in the first game 15-21 but battled down to the wire before falling 20-22 to the Golden Bears to finish second.

The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire would win the Consolation title on Saturday, defeating Storm Lake. GT/RA lost their first games to Emmetsburg by scores of 9-21 and 18-21, and then fell to Bishop Garrigan 14-21, then won 21-19 before falling 12-15. Against Storm Lake, the Titans would win 21-15, then lost 18-21 before coming back to win the match with a 15-9 final tally.

Against Storm Lake in the Consolation match, GT/RA earned third place by scores of 21-18, 15-21 and 15-13.
